Updates

What has changed recently.

This page is for current product status and shipped changes, not vague beta theater. If you want to know whether ActualFocus is being tightened in public, this is the short factual record.

Last updated April 5, 2026. ActualFocus is currently available as a direct macOS download, the Mac App Store review path is still pending, and the trust surfaces on this site are meant to make that direct-download path inspectable before approval lands.

Current Status

The short factual version.

This page focuses on the current state of the product and trust path, not on survey scorecards.

Current distribution

Direct macOS download

ActualFocus is currently distributed through the official direct-download path while Mac App Store review is still pending.

Current browser paths

Safari + Chrome supported

Browser behavior is documented publicly, and the browser code is available on GitHub for direct inspection.

Public inspection

Releases + browser code live

The site now exposes the release record, browser transparency, operator identity, support path, and public browser repository.

Recent change cadence

Multiple shipped updates

Recent product and trust-surface changes were driven by repeated first-session testing, but this page focuses on what shipped rather than the survey mechanics.

Shipped Recently

What actually changed.

The point is not that testing happened. The point is that the product moved after it happened.

Session controls and setup

April 1-2, 2026

  • Stopped camera capture outside active sessions.
  • Surfaced when camera tracking is off for the current session.
  • Paused sessions on screen inactivity and simplified alerts.
  • Added session modes and study-material-oriented session support.

Classification and onboarding

April 3, 2026

  • Added live source reclassification controls.
  • Expanded session-mode help and clarified phone detection.
  • Refined student-focused onboarding copy.
  • Preserved camera-less timing on frontmost transitions.
  • Smoothed phone detection and added session-start funnel measurement.

Trust surfaces and inspectability

April 4, 2026

  • Added session source reclassification and safer starter rules.
  • Reduced obviously bad default classifications for apps and sites.
  • Adjusted trust-facing privacy and telemetry configuration in testing channels.
  • Added attributed app-open tracking after the website handoff.

What improved

The public trust path is stronger now.

  • The install-time trust path is materially stronger now: release details, browser transparency, operator identity, support contact, and public browser code are all inspectable before installation.
  • Setup messaging is more explicit about camera control, browser behavior, and the direct-download path instead of relying on generic reassurance.
  • Recent changes have focused on two separate lanes: making the app easier to trust before install, and making the first-session recap feel more fair after use.

What is still in motion

This page is a status surface, not a victory lap.

  • Mac App Store review is still pending, so the direct-download path has to carry more of the legitimacy burden for now.
  • Classification accuracy is still a separate workstream. Better trust may improve installs, but a weak first session can still kill repeat usage.
  • A fuller release history and broader update log can layer on later, but the immediate job is keeping the current trust surfaces accurate and current.

Inspect Further

Updates work best next to the other trust surfaces.

Use Releases for the current build record, Browser Transparency for the literal Safari and Chrome behavior, About for the operator identity, and Download when you are ready to inspect the install path itself.
